PM Modi on Odisha development: Empowering women key to state’s rapid growth

Bhubaneswar, Sept 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today emphasized that the empowerment of women is crucial for Odisha’s development, asserting that the BJP's double-engine government will drive the state's progress. Speaking at the launch of the Subhadra Yojana, a major initiative by the Odisha government, Modi highlighted that the scheme will benefit over one crore women. Each beneficiary will receive a total of ₹50,000 in financial aid, distributed in installments.

Modi praised Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and his team for their effective governance and for fulfilling electoral promises. He described Majhi as a ‘popular’ Chief Minister and commended the ministers for their efforts to address public grievances.

The Prime Minister stressed that a nation advances most rapidly when half of its population—women—actively participates in its development. He connected this idea to Odisha’s cultural heritage, referring to Goddess Subhadra and Lord Jagannath as symbols of women’s empowerment. Modi expressed deep respect for women, likening them to the revered Goddess Subhadra.

This visit marked Modi's first trip to Odisha since the BJP government assumed power. He reminded the audience of his campaign promise that a "double-engine" government would accelerate Odisha's growth. Modi expressed confidence that the new administration would meet the aspirations of various communities, including villagers, marginalized groups, women, and youth. He noted that the government has already made significant strides, including opening all doors of the Shree Jagannatha temple and the Ratna Bhandar in Puri. Modi expressed satisfaction with the government's proactive approach in addressing public issues.
