Odisha to play key role in India's industrial expansion, says CM Majhi at Mumbai summit
Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced today that Odisha is poised to significantly contribute to India’s industrial expansion. Speaking at the IndiaChem 2024 event in Mumbai, he highlighted Odisha's abundant natural resources, strategic geographic position, and leadership in the mining and metals industries, which are now paving the way for the state’s emergence as a pivotal player in the Chemicals and Petrochemicals sectors.
Majhi emphasized that the Chemicals and Petrochemicals industry in Odisha is primed for rapid growth, driven by escalating demand from core sectors such as steel, aluminum, and petrochemicals. He noted that the state's chemical ecosystem is robust, supported by major companies like IOCL, Paradeep Phosphates, and IFFCO.
The Chief Minister pointed to the development of world-class infrastructure, particularly the PCPIR Paradeep, which is integral to Odisha's ambitions in the sector. This industrial hub effectively connects industries to global markets and integrates a solid supply chain.
Odisha is actively promoting investments in technical textiles, recycling, specialty chemicals, pharmaceutical chemicals, and green fuel production, aligning with the global shift toward cleaner energy solutions. Majhi lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership, stating that Odisha is on the brink of a new era—Purvodaya, representing the resurgence of Eastern India.
He noted that significant investments from leading companies in the chemicals sector are already transforming Odisha into a diversified hub catering to a wide range of industrial needs. Noteworthy investments from firms like Grasim, Berger Paints, and various leaders in the plastics and textiles sectors have further bolstered this growth.
Majhi asserted that Odisha's strategic location along India's east coast, along with its skilled workforce and industrial infrastructure, positions the state advantageously within the chemicals and petrochemicals landscape. He urged industrial leaders to explore the myriad opportunities in Odisha and participate in the state’s growth narrative.
To facilitate these discussions, the state government is organizing the “Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025,” scheduled for January 28-29, 2025, in Bhubaneswar, which will serve as a flagship Global Investors Summit.
