Two arrested for misbehaving with Indian Coast Guard officer & wife in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: Just days after a road rage incident involving an Army officer and his fiancée, another similar case occurred in the capital of Odisha on Thursday evening. This time, two individuals allegedly misbehaved with Indian Coast Guard DIG Satya Ranjan Das and his wife near the Behera Sahi traffic post.

According to police reports, the incident unfolded around 9:40 PM when the two young men, reportedly intoxicated, obstructed the DIG's vehicle as he was waiting at the traffic post near Kalinga Stadium to make a U-turn. When the traffic light turned green, DIG Das asked them to move their two-wheeler aside. Instead of complying, the duo responded with verbal abuse and lewd gestures. One of the men even attempted to open the car door, prompting the couple to alert the traffic police.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene and apprehended the two individuals. Following the incident, the DIG filed a formal complaint at Nayapalli police station. “I simply requested them to clear the way, but they reacted disrespectfully. As a responsible citizen, I felt it was essential to report this behavior,” Das explained to reporters.

Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh also visited the DIG to evaluate the situation. Later, Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra announced that breathalyzer tests on the suspects—Sibasish Mohanty (30) and Bikash Mohanty (27) from Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur—showed they were significantly intoxicated, with Sibasish registering a blood alcohol level of 132 mg/100 ml. Both were arrested and brought to court.

The pair has been charged under several sections of the Odisha Motor Vehicle Act, and a scooter was also confiscated from them, Mishra added.
