IMD issues thunderstorm and lightning warning for Odisha from March 20-23

Bhubaneswar, March 18: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings for Odisha, predicting thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and gusty winds across several districts from March 20 to 23. Residents have been urged to stay alert as wind speeds could range between 30-60 kmph in different regions.

For March 20-21, an orange warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Kendrapada, where thunderstorms with lightning and hail are expected, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph. A yellow warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, and Deogarh, expecting gusty winds up to 30-40 kmph.

On March 21-22, an orange warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, and Dhenkanal, where winds could reach 50-60 kmph. Additionally, a yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Bargarh, and Deogarh, expecting wind speeds of 40-50 kmph.

For March 22-23, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (50-60 kmph) are predicted in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh. Meanwhile, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal may experience wind speeds of 30-40 kmph.

The IMD has advised residents to take precautions against lightning, strong winds, and potential hailstorms.
