Police secures three-day remand for six fake call center suspects
Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: The Commissionerate Police has secured a three-day remand for six individuals arrested for operating a fraudulent call center and swindling people. The police received authorization from the Bhubaneswar court to extend their investigation into the case.
During this remand period, the accused will face rigorous interrogation. Moreover, a specialized team from the Commissionerate Police plans to visit the suspects' homes in Kolkata as part of the ongoing investigation.
Initial inquiries indicate that the group was involved in extensive cyber fraud, targeting both domestic and international victims, including American citizens. They allegedly deceived these victims by falsely promoting software products and antivirus services, resulting in estimated earnings exceeding ₹2 crore.
Authorities are currently examining the suspects’ bank accounts to ascertain the total amount stolen. All suspects, highly educated individuals from West Bengal, operated the fake call center from a flat located in Kanchan Apartment, Sundarpada. The police anticipate uncovering additional information about the scam and any other individuals involved as the investigation progresses.
