Odisha to experience chilly nights starting December 30

Bhubaneswar, Dec 29: Odisha is set to experience a cold wave starting December 30, following a brief pause in chilly conditions. The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has predicted a drop of 2°C to 4°C in night temperatures due to the influence of cold and dry winds entering the state, driven by the westward movement of a western disturbance currently affecting North India.

The cold conditions are expected to become more severe in the first week of January, as per the weather forecast issued on Sunday.

The IMD’s midday bulletin stated that while no significant change in minimum temperature is anticipated over the next 24 hours, temperatures will decrease by 2°C to 4°C across Odisha over the following four days.

In Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, night temperatures may dip to 13°C and 14°C, respectively, during the week. In the last 24 hours, the twin cities recorded temperatures of 16.9°C and 16.5°C, while G. Udayagiri emerged as the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of 10.8°C.

The IMD has also issued a dense fog alert for a few areas in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal until December 30. Additionally, shallow to moderate fog is likely in parts of Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sambalpur. Light rainfall is expected at isolated locations in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Deogarh districts during this period.
