Heavy rains persist in Odisha as Cyclone Dana transitions to low pressure

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: The severe cyclonic storm Dana, which recently made landfall in Odisha, has now weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over the northern parts of the state, according to the latest report from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) released on Saturday. The IMD forecasts that this low-pressure system is expected to diminish further within the next 12 hours.

After making landfall at Habalikhati Nature Camp in Bhitarkanika as a severe cyclonic storm early Friday morning, Dana subsequently transitioned into a deep depression and then to a depression. Over the past six hours, this remnant system has shifted slightly westward and is now categorized as a well-marked low-pressure area.

As a result of Dana's impact, several districts, including Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore, Jajpur, and Mayurbhanj, have experienced heavy rainfall. The IMD warns that rain is likely to persist across various regions of the state due to the influence of this cyclonic system. Additionally, isolated rainfall is anticipated in areas such as Jajpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, and Cuttack. A yellow warning has been issued for heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) in isolated locations within Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, and Puri districts on October 26.
