Cricket match dispute at Ravenshaw University sparks violent clash, several injured

Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: A heated dispute during a cricket match at Ravenshaw University in Cuttack escalated into a violent confrontation between two student groups on Thursday, resulting in multiple injuries. The injured students were immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) for treatment.
The clash erupted during a friendly match between residents of two university hostels—East Hostel and Lalitgiri Hostel. The altercation reportedly started over a disagreement regarding an umpire’s decision, which soon turned into a physical fight. Tensions flared as students from both hostels engaged in a scuffle, using sticks and other objects, leading to severe injuries among the players and spectators.
Upon being informed, Malgodown police, along with senior university officials, swiftly reached the spot to bring the situation under control. Authorities ensured that the injured students received medical attention and dispersed the crowd to prevent further escalation.
Following the incident, police have launched an investigation and have intensified security measures on campus. Additional patrolling has been arranged around the university to prevent any further disturbances, while university officials are working on disciplinary actions against those involved in the violence.
