Odisha govt approves 2,500 new Home Guard posts to boost law enforcement

Bhubaneswar, April 15: In a major move to strengthen law enforcement and enhance public safety, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday approved the creation of 2,500 new Home Guard posts in Odisha. With this decision, the total sanctioned strength of Home Guards in the state will rise from 17,675 to 20,175, marking a significant boost to the state’s auxiliary police force.
According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office, this initiative is part of CM Majhi’s broader commitment to reinforce the police infrastructure and address manpower shortages across various law enforcement departments.
Following his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on April 9, the Chief Minister revealed that the state has already initiated administrative steps to recruit over 12,000 personnel in the Home Department. This includes posts in key units such as the Odisha Special Striking Force (3,003 posts), Odisha Industrial Security Force (3,000), traffic police (2,000), and State Forensic Science Department (254).
Additionally, the government plans to establish 20 cyber police stations and appoint a Crime Scene Officer at every police station to tackle the growing threat of cybercrime across the state.
