Odisha CM unveils plans for cultural renaissance and language promotion

Bhubaneswar, July 4: After assuming office at Loka Seva Bhawan, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi declared on Thursday that Odia language would be the medium for all government official work. "In addition to economic development, we will focus on cultural advancement and preserving Odia 'Asmita'," he informed reporters.

Majhi outlined plans to revamp the Odisha Sahitya Akademi, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, and Lalit Kala Akademi to bolster their capabilities. "Efforts will streamline the Odissi Gabesana Kendra for greater efficiency and promote quality research on Odia cultural identity. We aim to nurture reading habits by expanding library initiatives," he stated.

Highlighting initiatives for language promotion, Majhi proposed establishing a Translation Academy and modernizing technology for Odia language use. Plans include setting up an Odia Asmita Bhawan and forming a Language Commission, with potential amendments to the Odisha Official Language Act to enforce widespread Odia use in government operations.

The Chief Minister also announced the reconstitution of the Odia Bhasha Pratisthan and plans for Samanwita Sanskruti Bhawan in every district to support local arts and culture. "We will prioritize appointing Odia teachers in high schools and accelerate the Paika Academy and Barunei Memorial projects. Protecting our state's heritage sites is a key commitment," he affirmed.

Majhi emphasized public engagement, promising to seek feedback on strategies to uphold and promote Odia 'Asmita'.
