Odisha reports five new COVID-19 cases amid resurgence concerns

Bhubaneswar, May 28: Five new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Odisha on Wednesday, raising concerns about a possible resurgence of the virus in the state. According to sources from the Health Department, four of these cases were detected in Bhubaneswar, while one was reported from Khurda district.
The infected individuals include four men and one woman, all of whom have been isolated and are currently receiving medical care.
Authorities have promptly initiated contact tracing and containment measures to prevent further spread. Health officials are urging the public to remain vigilant, adhere strictly to COVID-19 safety protocols, and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms appear.
Although the number of cases remains relatively low, the state government is closely monitoring the situation to avoid any escalation. On May 22, a 75-year-old man tested positive for COVID-19—the first case in over two years.
He is being treated at a private hospital and suffers from several underlying health conditions. His sample has been sent for genome sequencing amid the World Health Organization’s recent focus on variants LP.8.1 and XEC, which are under surveillance due to their rising global presence.
