MVI arrested by Odisha Vigilance over bribery allegations

Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: Odisha Vigilance officials today arrested Bijay Kumar Behuria, the Motor Vehicles Inspector (MVI) from Nuapada, after seizing Rs 1.32 lakh in suspected illicit cash from him on Saturday. The Vigilance team had been tracking Behuria based on reliable information about his involvement in accepting substantial bribes from various sources.
The arrest occurred when Vigilance officials intercepted Behuria near Khordha Hospital Square as he was traveling from Nuapada to Bhubaneswar in a private vehicle. During the operation, they recovered Rs 1,32,000 from him, which he could not account for satisfactorily. Both the cash and his vehicle were confiscated.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were carried out at Behuria's rented residence in Nuapada, his family home in Behuria Sahi, Jajpur, an apartment in Sailasree Vihar near Trident Institute, Bhubaneswar, and his office chamber in Nuapada. A case has been filed under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and the investigation is ongoing.
