Bhubaneswar youth dies by suicide following financial woes from online games

Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: A tragic incident unfolded in Bhubaneswar on Thursday when a 22-year-old youth named Shasanka Sekhar Satapathy was discovered hanging in his home, allegedly after incurring significant financial losses from online gaming. The incident occurred near Tinimundia Chhak in the Badu Sahi area, within the jurisdiction of the Lingaraja police station.

According to reports, Shasanka was found suspended from the ceiling by family members, who quickly attempted to save him and transported him to a local hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he was pronounced dead by medical staff upon arrival.

Upon receiving notification, officials from the Lingaraja police station arrived at the hospital to initiate an investigation. A case has been filed, and authorities have confiscated Shasanka’s mobile phone for further examination.

Initial inquiries suggest that the young man experienced substantial financial strain due to online gaming, with indications that he may have taken loans from others to support his gaming activities. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the underlying factors contributing to this unfortunate incident.
