IMD predicts heavy rain in Odisha till October 12 despite weakening cyclonic circulation
Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: Even though the cyclonic circulation over north Odisha has become less marked, several parts of the state are likely to experience heavy rainfall till October 12, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In its midday bulletin issued on Thursday, the IMD forecasted moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph over multiple districts in the coming days.
For October 9, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Gajapati district, while thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds may occur in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
On October 10, similar weather is expected in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, and Mayurbhanj, while thunderstorms may impact several other districts across coastal and western Odisha.
For October 11, the IMD has warned of continued heavy rain in Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri, urging people to remain cautious as the wet spell may disrupt normal life in low-lying and hilly areas.
