Final voter list published for Nuapada bypoll scheduled on November 11

Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: The final voter list for the Nuapada Assembly constituency has been officially published ahead of the bye-election scheduled for November 11.

According to District Collector and Election Officer Madhusudan Dash, the constituency has a total of 2,53,624 voters, comprising 1,24,108 males, 1,29,495 females, and 21 voters from the third gender. The list also includes 1,786 senior citizens, 9,429 young voters, and 3,988 voters with disabilities, spread across 358 polling stations.

The voter list underwent a special summary revision between September 16 and 29, during which the administration received 7,791 applications for new registrations, 2,869 for deletions, and 1,895 for corrections. After scrutiny, 10,685 applications were approved. Citizens can still apply for inclusion until October 10, while the final updated list will be released seven days later.

The bye-election, necessitated by the demise of four-time MLA Rajendra Dholakia, is expected to be a high-stakes contest among major political parties. The Congress has fielded senior tribal leader Ghasiram Majhi, while the BJP and BJD are yet to announce their nominees. Sources said the BJP’s core committee will soon finalize its candidate, while the BJD has constituted a panel of senior leaders for the same.
