PM Modi inaugurates 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention today in Bhubaneswar. He welcomed delegates and members of the Indian diaspora from around the world, expressing hope that the inauguration song would resonate at diaspora events globally. He praised Grammy award-winning artist Ricky Kej and his team for their exceptional performance, which encapsulated the emotions of the Indian community abroad.

The Prime Minister extended his gratitude to the Chief Guest, H.E. Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of Trinidad and Tobago, for her heartfelt remarks in a video message. He noted the significance of the timing of the event, coinciding with vibrant Indian festivals such as the upcoming Maha Kumbh, Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Pongal, and Maag Bihu, enhancing the festive spirit in India. Shri Modi reminded attendees that this day marks the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India in 1915, and he expressed that the presence of the diaspora during this joyful period was particularly meaningful.

He highlighted that this edition of PBD is especially significant, occurring shortly after the birth centenary of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose vision greatly influenced the establishment of PBD. Modi stated, “Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has become an institution to strengthen the bond between India and its diaspora,” emphasizing shared celebrations of culture and progress.

Modi praised Odisha’s rich heritage, pointing out historical sites like the Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves, the Sun Temple at Konark, and ancient ports that reflect Odisha's historical significance as a center for trade and culture. He urged that India’s legacy of peace, symbolized by Dhauli and the teachings of Samrat Ashoka, should guide the nation’s message to the world that the future lies in peace and compassion. He reiterated his view of the Indian diaspora as ambassadors of India and expressed joy in connecting with fellow Indians globally.
