Flea Market at Ekamra Utsav draws crowds with culture and commerce

Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: As a highlight of the Ekamra Utsav, the Night Flea Market organized by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in celebration of Pravasi Bharatiya Dibas opened on January 5.

Now in its fifth day, the market has become a bustling hub for visitors, dignitaries, and tourists, attracting large crowds eager to experience its unique blend of shopping, culture, and entertainment. Operating daily from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM until January 16, the market offers an eclectic mix of goods, live performances, and the cultural vibrancy of Odisha.

The Night Flea Market has turned the Ekamra Utsav into a thriving space for emerging entrepreneurs, home-based businesses, and local artisans from across India. With 33 stalls showcasing a diverse range of offerings—from trendy clothing, footwear, and accessories to handcrafted home decor, organic food products, and health items—the market is a one-stop destination for visitors seeking hidden gems and supporting local talent. It features an array of products, including handicrafts, gifts, rural bazaar items, toys, loomed sarees, handmade decor, printed embroidered clothes, and more.

What distinguishes this market is its celebration of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage. Each evening comes alive with live performances from talented local artists, including singers, dancers, and folk performers. The market also hosts comedy shows, college band performances, and musical acts from emerging groups, creating a dynamic atmosphere where creativity flourishes and interaction between performers and the public thrives.

In addition to its commercial offerings, the Flea Market pays homage to Odisha's traditional craftsmanship. Master artisans conduct live demonstrations of their skills, allowing visitors to witness the intricate processes behind art forms such as terracotta work, Pattachitra painting, stone carving, and wood carving. These demonstrations not only showcase the state’s artistic heritage but also provide insight into the dedication and craftsmanship behind Odisha’s famous handicrafts. The Flea Market continues to enchant visitors
