Bhubaneswar, May 20: According to the latest updates from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area is anticipated to develop over the Southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22, 2024.

This weather system is expected to initially track northeastward and intensify into a depression over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 24, 2024.

Subsequently, widespread rainfall, with heavy to very heavy downpours in isolated areas, is forecasted for North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on May 24 and May 25.

As a precautionary measure, fishermen are advised against venturing into the central Bay of Bengal from May 23 onwards and into the North Bay of Bengal from May 24 onwards. Fishermen currently at sea are urged to return to the coast before May 23.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted district collectors regarding the potential formation of a low-pressure area over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, as predicted by the IMD. In response, the SRC has issued an advisory emphasizing the need for vigilance and readiness among district administrations.

The advisory highlights the possibility of light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers in one or two districts of Odisha. Additionally, it stresses the importance of closely monitoring the weather system and ensuring that district administrations are prepared to respond to any potential challenges or emergencies.
