Odisha Vigilance nabs MVI with Rs 1.32 lakh in suspected bribe money

Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: Vigilance officials apprehended a motor vehicle inspector (MVI) in possession of Rs 1.32 lakh in alleged illicit money near Khurda in Odisha on Saturday.

Acting on credible information, a Vigilance team intercepted Bijay Kumar Behuria, the MVI of Nuapada, as he was traveling from Nuapada to Bhubaneswar in a private vehicle near Khurda Hospital Square.

During the search, officials found Rs 1.32 lakh in cash, suspected to have been obtained through corrupt practices from various sources. Unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the money, Behuria had the entire amount confiscated, along with the vehicle.

Subsequently, Vigilance officials conducted searches at five locations associated with Behuria to investigate potential disproportionate assets. He is currently being questioned to determine the origin of the funds, according to a Vigilance press release.
