Cyclonic circulation likely over North Bay of Bengal around October 10; IMD issues heavy rainfall alert for Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal around October 10, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday. Although the IMD has not yet confirmed whether a low-pressure area will develop from the system, it has issued weather alerts, warning of widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across several parts of Odisha in the coming days.

At present, a trough line is active over North Coastal Odisha, Interior Odisha, Telangana, and South Chhattisgarh, contributing to unstable atmospheric conditions. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation persists over Northeast Jharkhand and adjoining regions, which could intensify rainfall activity in Odisha over the next three days.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar, has placed multiple districts under yellow warning, predicting heavy rainfall and lightning. The affected districts include Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Some regions have already experienced pre-monsoon showers, with Chandbali recording 36 mm, Keonjhar 7 mm, Titlagarh 4 mm, and Nayagarh 5 mm of rainfall. Authorities have advised residents to stay vigilant, avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms, and follow IMD updates for safety precautions.
