High humidity and rising temperatures make coastal Odisha weather unbearable, IMD issues warnings

Bhubaneswar, June 4: People across Odisha’s coastal belt are reeling under oppressive weather conditions as high humidity levels continue to make the heat even more unbearable. On Wednesday, Bhubaneswar recorded a morning temperature of 32°C with a humidity level of 73.6% by 8:30 am. Other coastal towns followed closely, with Puri recording 34.4°C, Balasore 33°C, and Gopalpur and Paradip at 31.8°C each.
By 11:30 am, the temperature in Bhubaneswar had surged to 36.2°C with humidity at 53.6%, according to senior meteorologist Umasankar Das. The city has also been witnessing afternoon showers, with nor’wester-triggered thunderstorms and lightning for the past two days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that hot and humid conditions will persist, as the southwest monsoon's advancement has stalled over parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, and West Bengal.
From June 4 to 8, districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, and Gajapati may experience intense heat and humidity. A heatwave may affect parts of Balasore and Puri on June 5, and extend to Jagatsinghpur and Bhadrak on June 6.
Yellow warnings for thunderstorms and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) have been issued for multiple districts through June 5.
