Robbery at Sundargarh dhaba ends in police encounter, two criminals injured

Bhubaneswar, April 25: In a dramatic late-night encounter on Thursday, two notorious criminals were injured in a gunfight with police after robbing a roadside dhaba near Bisra police station in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
The accused, identified as Baneswar Singh and Shivanand Singh, were shot in the legs during the exchange of fire and are currently undergoing treatment at Rourkela Government Hospital.
According to reports, four armed miscreants arrived at the dhaba on two motorcycles and looted ₹20,000 from the owner at gunpoint. When alerted, a police team led by the inspector-in-charge of Bisra police station pursued the gang. The criminals opened fire on the police, prompting retaliatory action. Two of the gang members were injured and captured, while the other two managed to flee.
The dhaba owner, who also sustained a bullet injury during the robbery, is said to be in stable condition. A massive manhunt has been launched to trace and apprehend the absconding culprits.
Notably, this is the second such encounter in the area in recent weeks, highlighting growing police efforts to curb organized crime in the region.
