IMD predicts weather relief for Odisha with rain and storms from April 26
Bhubaneswar, April 25: Relief is in sight for Odisha as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a shift in weather conditions beginning April 26, with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and even hail and heavy rainfall expected in several parts of the state.
The IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts valid till April 29, warning of potential thunderstorms and rain-related disturbances. However, for the next two days, temperatures are likely to remain high, with maximum temperatures expected to exceed 42°C in districts such as Jharsuguda, Boudh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Sundargarh, Angul, Bargarh, Sonepur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada. A welcome dip of 3-5°C in temperature is likely during the subsequent three days.
On April 25–26, heatwave conditions may prevail at isolated places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Boudh, and Balangir, while coastal and interior districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, and Cuttack are likely to experience hot and humid weather. Warm night conditions may also affect Sambalpur and Balangir.
Starting April 26, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are likely in parts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, and Ganjam, marking the onset of a cooler spell across the state.
