Hansita Abhilipsa and Anil Mohanty grilled by I-T department in Jharpada jail

Bhubaneswar, Feb 3: Officials from the Income Tax (I-T) department conducted an interrogation of con artist Hansita Abhilipsa and her associate Anil Mohanty inside Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar on Monday, focusing on the assets they allegedly acquired through fraudulent activities.

According to sources, two teams from the I-T department questioned the pair about their illegal properties as part of an investigation aimed at uncovering their political connections and financial transactions. The duo is suspected of accumulating significant wealth and assets through various unlawful means.

Previously, the I-T department carried out raids at 16 locations in Bhubaneswar, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Jharkhand, and New Delhi, which were reportedly linked to the con couple. These extensive searches revealed properties worth hundreds of crores, along with benami assets valued at Rs 58 crore, which were subsequently seized.

In Bhubaneswar, raids targeted the duo's offices in the Raghunathpur area, Anil Mohanty's residence in SBT Apartments, and another house in Unit 8. Following their arrest in December, numerous shocking revelations came to light regarding their operations, including their tactics of deceiving high-profile individuals, particularly affluent businesspeople in the mining and construction industries, by falsely claiming to be the daughter and son-in-law of the principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Connections between Hansita and various politicians were also uncovered.
