Sujeet Kumar resigns from Rajya Sabha, joins BJP in New Delhi
Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: A few hours after resigning from his Rajya Sabha membership, Sujeet Kumar officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party's national headquarters in New Delhi on Friday.
Kumar's induction into the BJP was marked by the presence of Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan, Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahtab, and BJP Odisha In-Charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, among other prominent leaders.
Earlier in the day, Sujeet Kumar submitted his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar and BJD President Naveen Patnaik. In his resignation letter, Kumar stated, "I hereby resign from the Rajya Sabha membership, a decision I have made consciously."
Following his resignation, the BJD expelled Kumar from the party with immediate effect. The BJD's expulsion order criticized Kumar for engaging in anti-party activities, stating that he had betrayed both the party and the expectations of Kalahandi district’s constituents.
It is noteworthy that Mamata Mohanta had previously resigned from her MP position and the primary membership of the BJD.
