IAS officer Manoj Kumar Sahoo appointed as Private Secretary to Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: Manoj Kumar Sahoo, a senior IAS officer, has been appointed as the Private Secretary to the Chief Minister of Odisha, effective Saturday. Sahoo, a 2006 batch IAS officer, is currently serving as the Special Secretary to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

According to a notification from the General Administration and Public Grievance department, the role of Private Secretary to the Chief Minister holds the same status and responsibilities as that of a Special Secretary within the IAS cadre of the state.

Sahoo was appointed as Special Secretary to the Chief Minister last month. Prior to that, in November 2024, the Centre approved his inter-cadre deputation to Odisha for a duration of three years. He is part of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre and previously worked as a deputy election commissioner in the Election Commission office in Delhi.

Hailing from Singapur village in the Balikuda block of Jagatsinghpur district, Sahoo completed his BSc at the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology in Bhubaneswar. Notably, he was appointed Deputy Election Commissioner in November 2022, becoming the first Odia to hold that prestigious position.
