Jewelry shop employee killed in robbery attempt in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: A jewelry shop employee was killed, and another individual was critically injured when unidentified assailants opened fire during a robbery attempt in the Panikoili area of Jajpur district, Odisha, on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Nila Madhab Panda, while the injured person is receiving treatment at Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical.

According to sources, Panda was en route to deposit cash at the local bank when approximately five attackers on two motorcycles attempted to rob him. The assailants opened fire at the vehicle carrying the victims during the attack.

Local residents managed to subdue two of the attackers, but at least two others escaped the scene, causing chaos and tension as a large crowd gathered.

Following the incident, a police team arrived at the location and took the two captured suspects into custody. A search operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend the remaining attackers, and an investigation into the incident is in progress.

This incident occurred just one day after an armed robbery took place at a gold loan firm in Sambalpur.
