Nursing student attempts suicide after private photos leaked on social media in Nabarangpur

Bhubaneswar, July 23: In a deeply distressing incident, a B.Sc. Nursing student from Raighar block in Nabarangpur district allegedly attempted suicide after her private photographs were leaked on social media by a youth reportedly pursuing her in a one-sided obsession.

The victim, who is studying in Jeypore and staying in a hostel, consumed poison on Tuesday, unable to cope with the trauma and humiliation caused by the online circulation of intimate images. The accused has been identified as Satyajit Sarkar, a B.Sc. Agriculture student from a nearby village.

Sources revealed that on July 13, Satyajit allegedly assaulted the girl in public at the Jeypore market, causing visible injuries to her face and eyes. Though the matter was initially reported to Jeypore Town Police, no strict action was taken after a compromise was reached. However, on July 15, the girl lodged a formal FIR, after which Satyajit allegedly uploaded the private photos and videos.

Following the suicide attempt, the student’s family filed a complaint at Raighar Police Station. Police have recorded the girl’s statement and begun an investigation, but the accused remains absconding, prompting public demand for his immediate arrest.
