Youth allegedly poisoned to death by younger brother in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 30: A young man has died after allegedly being poisoned slowly by his younger brother in Gundicha Colony, located in the Salpada area of Anandapur block in Odisha's Keonjhar district. Reports indicate that Satyabrata Das poisoned his elder brother, Debabrata Das, due to resentment over Debabrata’s strict and protective nature.

An audio recording of their conversation, which surfaced online, captures Debabrata discussing his declining health while accusing Satyabrata of poisoning him, allegedly over a farm dispute and for insisting that he concentrate on his studies. In the recording, Debabrata expresses his pain, stating, "What hurts me more than the physical suffering is that my own brother has poisoned me. I cannot forgive you as long as I live. You’ve tried to kill me deliberately, and if I report this, you’ll face life in prison."

Debabrata also refers to Satyabrata as a "psycho" and pleads for him to disclose the poisons used, hoping it will aid medical staff in treating him. Satyabrata allegedly admitted to mixing monocrotophos, a pesticide, into Debabrata’s food three times and even locking him in a room while releasing formaldehyde.

Family members eventually found Debabrata in critical condition and took him to a Cuttack hospital, where he received treatment for nine days. He later recorded another conversation with Satyabrata before being transferred to a hospital in Bhubaneswar, where his condition deteriorated, ultimately leading to his death.
