Queue system for devotees at Puri Jagannath Temple to begin from September 15

Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: After years of deliberation, the Odisha government is all set to introduce a queue system (Dhadi Darshan) for devotees at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, aimed at ensuring smoother crowd management and disciplined darshan of the sibling deities.

Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Friday announced that the much-awaited system will be made operational from September 15, just ahead of the holy Kartik month, which witnesses lakhs of pilgrims thronging the temple.

Harichandan informed that the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee—responsible for overseeing the temple’s administration—will be reconstituted by September 3 or 4. The panel’s first meeting will finalize arrangements, including the shifting of the Hundi from the Jagamohan area, paving the way for the implementation of the queue system.

The Minister stressed that the temple administration is fully prepared to introduce the new system, which is expected to streamline darshan, reduce overcrowding, and enhance the overall spiritual experience for devotees.

Notably, the Managing Committee has remained defunct since its tenure ended in August 2024, leading to delays in several crucial decisions. The revival of the panel marks an important step toward improved governance of the 12th-century shrine.
