Rs 6 lakh compensation for families of Odisha labourers who died in Patna metro mishap

Bhubaneswar, Oct 30: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced on Tuesday that each of the families of two labourers from Odisha, who tragically lost their lives in a tunnel collapse during Patna Metro construction on Monday night, will receive financial aid of ₹6 lakh. The victims have been identified as Manoj Behera from Gochabadi village in Nayagarh district and Bijay Behera from Kadua village.

The Chief Minister expressed his profound sorrow regarding the incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

Seven workers from Odisha were involved in the construction project. The fatal incident occurred when the brakes of a loco pickup failed near the exit of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) on Ashok Rajpath, resulting in the death of two workers. Another worker sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital.

Labour Minister Ganesh Ramsingh Khuntia stated that District Labour Officer Satyanarayan Acharya has been tasked with visiting the accident site in Patna to ensure the proper return of the deceased workers' bodies to Odisha. He also mentioned that the workers would be eligible for compensation of ₹6 lakh, provided they possess valid labour cards.
