Odisha farmers to receive crop loss compensation within five days

Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: The Odisha government announced on Tuesday that farmers impacted by crop damage due to unseasonal rains will receive compensation within five days, as the distribution process has already commenced.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari informed the media that the state government has started disbursing financial aid to affected farmers. He stated that the Revenue Department has transferred the compensation funds to district collectors for distribution.
Farmers will be compensated at the rate of ₹15,000 per hectare for irrigated farmland and ₹7,500 per hectare for non-irrigated land. According to Pujari, the total loss incurred by farmers across the state has been estimated at ₹292 crore, based on reports submitted by district collectors.
A total of 14 districts have reported damage due to unseasonal rains, with partial losses recorded in two districts. The Puri district experienced the most severe impact, followed by Ganjam.
The unseasonal rains have affected over 6.66 lakh farmers, causing damage to crops across approximately 2.26 lakh hectares.
