Jharsuguda sizzles at 41°C, hottest in Odisha; IMD predicts slight relief ahead

Bhubaneswar, April 7: Jharsuguda town in western Odisha recorded the highest temperature in the state on Monday, with the mercury soaring to a scorching 41°C, making it the hottest location in the region for the day. The intense heatwave also affected other parts of western Odisha, with Sambalpur registering 39.8°C, Rourkela 39°C, and Hirakud 38.8°C.
Even coastal cities like Bhubaneswar and Cuttack weren’t spared, both recording maximum temperatures of 38°C. Weather scientist Umashankar Das shared the figures via his official account on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the rising heat levels across the state as of 2:30 pm.
In light of the soaring temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cautionary note. While no significant change in the day temperature is expected over the next 24 hours, a slight dip of 2-3°C is likely afterward in several districts.
Temperatures are expected to remain above 40°C in isolated pockets of districts like Angul, Bhawanipatna, Bolangir, Titlagarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Paralakhemundi, and Rourkela, with residents advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
