Odisha Vigilance arrests surgery specialist for accepting bribe in post-mortem report case

Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Dr. Biswanath Adhek, a surgery specialist at Badamba Community Health Centre (CHC), Cuttack district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹2,000.
The amount was part of an overall demand of ₹5,000 from a complainant seeking a favorable post-mortem report of his deceased son, along with an assurance of favorable evidence in court during the trial.
The complainant, unable to meet the full bribe demand due to financial constraints, approached the Vigilance Department. Acting on the complaint, a team laid a trap and caught Dr. Adhek red-handed while accepting ₹2,000, the second installment of the demanded bribe.
The bribe money was recovered from Dr. Adhek’s possession and seized in the presence of witnesses. Following his arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at his temporary residence within the Swasthya Upakendra building in Badamba and his permanent house in Sector-10, CDA, Cuttack.
A case (Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 01, dated 21.01.2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing. Dr. Adhek has been arrested and will be presented before the court.
