‘Ama Bus’ service to expand in Odisha, covering eight more locations

Bhubaneswar, March 28: Odisha’s urban transportation is set for a major boost as the ‘Ama Bus’ service will soon be extended to eight more locations across the state. The service will be introduced in Angul, Jharsuguda, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Baripada, Jeypore, Balasore, and Rayagada, further improving connectivity for commuters.

The announcement was made during the 49th Board Meeting of the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) on Thursday. The meeting, chaired by Development Commissioner and CRUT Chairperson Anu Garg, focused on enhancing public transport safety, service quality, and accessibility.

Key decisions included enforcing speed limits for buses—35 km/h for electric buses, 40 km/h for diesel buses on city routes, and 50 km/h on intercity highways. Regular training programs on safe driving, electric bus operations, and first aid have been launched for crew members. Additionally, trials for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and dashboard cameras are underway, with eight buses equipped for testing.

To further improve safety, an Accident Review Committee, in collaboration with the State Transport Authority, will investigate incidents and conduct monthly safety assessments.
