Suresh Dev Datta Singh takes charge as new Commissioner of Police

Bhubaneswar, Sept 30: Senior IPS officer Suresh Dev Datta Singh took over as the Commissioner of Police (CP) for the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate on Monday afternoon. Singh, a 1998-batch officer, replaces Sanjeeb Panda, who has been reassigned as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Training and the director of the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA). Panda had only been in the CP position for nine months.
Previously, Singh served as the ADG (Operations) and played a key role in efforts to combat the Maoist threat in Odisha. He was welcomed with a guard of honor at the Commissionerate Police headquarters before officially assuming his new role.
In his address, Singh emphasized the importance of effective crime prevention and timely justice for victims. “I will review the law and order situation and develop a strategic plan with my team. We aim to ensure that the public feels comfortable approaching the police with their concerns. The Commissionerate Police welcomes feedback and is committed to making necessary adjustments,” he stated, highlighting his focus on compassionate and responsive policing.
Singh also issued a warning against individuals undermining law and order or creating disturbances in the community.
This leadership change follows a significant reshuffle within the Odisha government, which also saw the transfer of Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh amid ongoing scrutiny over the recent incident at Bharatpur police station, where an army officer and his fiancée were reportedly assaulted by police personnel.
