Raid at Nischintakoili bar results in major seizure of fake liquor and bottling materials

Bhubaneswar, Sept 26: Officials from the Excise Department seized a significant amount of counterfeit liquor from a bar in the Nischintakoili area of Cuttack district, Odisha, on Thursday. During a special operation, three individuals were apprehended.

A team of approximately ten Excise officials conducted a raid at a bar situated on the Cuttack-Kendrapada Road in the Nischintakoili market. In addition to the spurious liquor, they confiscated materials like caps and stickers typically used for bottling.

The three detained individuals are currently being interrogated to gather more information about the illegal liquor operation.

This raid is part of a broader crackdown by the Excise Department across the state to combat the illegal sale and production of counterfeit liquor, following a recent hooch tragedy in Ganjam district that resulted in at least five fatalities. On August 19, around 20 individuals from the Chikiti area were hospitalized after consuming toxic country-made liquor sold near Maoundpur village, with five succumbing to the effects later.
