Naveen Patnaik named Leader of Opposition by BJD in Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar, June 19: Naveen Patnaik, former Chief Minister of Odisha and President of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), was elected as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Odisha Assembly today. The decision came during a BJD legislature party meeting chaired by Patnaik at Sankha Bhawan in Bhubaneswar this evening.

"After our meeting with the MLAs elected in the recent BJD elections, they have graciously elected me as the Leader of Opposition and leader of the BJD legislature party," Patnaik announced following the meeting.

He also announced new appointments within the party: Shri Prasanna Acharya as the deputy leader of the BJD legislature, Pramila Mallik as the chief whip, and Shri Pratap Keshari Deb as the deputy chief whip.
