Police ASI caught red-handed by Vigilance while accepting bribe in Berhampur

Bhubaneswar, June 4: In a major crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Babita Suna, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Mahila Police Station, Berhampur, while she was accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant.

According to reports, Suna, the Investigating Officer of a case registered at the Mahila Police Station, had been demanding the bribe to extend undue help to the complainant and his mother, who were involved in the case. She allegedly threatened to arrest the complainant if the bribe was not paid. Left with no option, the complainant approached Vigilance authorities, who laid a trap and caught ASI Suna red-handed while receiving the bribe today.

The entire bribe amount has been recovered from her possession and seized. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to ASI Suna to investigate disproportionate assets.

A case (Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No. 7/2025) has been registered under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is ongoing.
