Heatwave intensifies in Odisha amid stalled monsoon, temperature set to rise further

Bhubaneswar, June 3: Odisha is once again reeling under intense heat as day temperatures soar due to the return of heatwave and hot, humid weather conditions. This resurgence of heat comes amid stalled advancement of the southwest monsoon, leading to discomfort across many regions.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the northern limit of the monsoon has remained static, currently positioned over Mumbai, Ahilyanagar (Maharashtra), Adilabad (Telangana), Bhawanipatna and Puri (Odisha), and Sandheads (West Bengal). IMD has predicted that conditions are unlikely to become favourable for the monsoon to progress further for at least the next seven days.
With monsoon progression stalled, temperatures across Odisha are expected to rise by 2-3°C in the next four days. The IMD also indicated no significant change in temperatures for three days after that. A yellow warning for heatwave and hot, humid conditions has been issued for several districts until June 6.
By 11:30 AM on Tuesday, Bhubaneswar had already recorded 36.6°C, after reaching 33.4°C at 8:30 AM. Balasore was the hottest at 38.4°C, followed by Sambalpur (37.2°C), Bhubaneswar (36.6°C), and Jharsuguda and Puri (36.4°C each). On Monday, Balasore topped the chart at 39.8°C.
