10th Puri Heritage Walk explores spiritual and historical legacy of Narendra Sarovar

Bhubaneswar, May 12: The 10th edition of the Puri Heritage Walks (PHW) took place on Sunday, offering participants a meaningful journey through the rich cultural and spiritual heritage surrounding Narendra Sarovar, one of Puri’s most sacred waterbodies. Around 20 participants from Puri, Bhubaneswar, Konark, and Rourkela took part in the immersive trail.
The walk began with a visit to Narendra Sarovar, followed by guided explorations of key heritage and spiritual landmarks including Kalindiswara Temple, Gopal Jew Mutt, Brahma Jaga, Jatia Babaji Ashram, Kuladananda Brahmachari Ashram, and Baya Baba Mutt.
At the Kuladananda Brahmachari Ashram, participants gathered for an engaging discussion. PHW convener Sanjay Baral delivered the welcome address. Ashoka Manjari Nayak spoke about the history of Narendra Sarovar and the evolution of the Chandan Yatra, explaining how the festival shifted from Chandanpur to its current site after the Sarovar was constructed.
Ritu Pattanaik, an expert on Odia cuisine, shared insights on the "Mandua Bhoga" ritual offerings. Nutritionist Jyotsna Mohapatra shared personal experiences from previous walks, while advisor Debi Prasanna Nanda discussed the divine significance of the sacred pond.
The walk concluded with the group witnessing the "Chapa Khela"—a traditional water sport of the deities—at Narendra Sarovar, followed by a final visit to Baya Baba Mutt, where participants enjoyed heritage delicacies prepared at the site, ending the event on a flavorful note.
