IMD issues ‘yellow’ warning for heat and humidity in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for hot and humid weather across several districts in Odisha, with conditions expected to persist until May 15.

According to the IMD’s latest weather update, the maximum day temperature is expected to rise by 3-5°C over the next 4-5 days, with no significant change anticipated afterward. The warning covers several districts in the state, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati, where hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail on May 11.

In addition to the rising temperatures, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain or thundershowers in the afternoon or evening at isolated places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, and Nuapada. The rest of the state will remain dry.

The IMD also issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for thunderstorms with lightning, accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h, expected in the afternoon and evening hours. From May 12 to 13, heatwave conditions are forecast to affect isolated areas, with the warning extending into May 14 and 15.
