Odisha’s night temperatures set to rise after two days of cold snap

Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: Odisha is expected to experience cold weather for another two days, after which the night temperatures are anticipated to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.

The IMD has also issued a warning about dense fog in some areas of Sundargarh, Kandhamal, and Koraput districts until the morning of January 11. Additionally, shallow to moderate fog is likely in parts of Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Angul, and Dhenkanal during this time.

Over the past 24 hours, Koraput has been shrouded in very dense fog, resulting in visibility dropping below 50 meters. Moderate fog has also been reported in Phulbani.

As per the meteorological office, G Udayagiri in Kandhamal emerged as the coldest spot in the state, recording a temperature of 5.2°C. Jharsuguda logged the season's lowest night temperature at 6°C, which is 5.8°C below the normal level, with cold and dry air moving from the northwest into Odisha.

Other notable temperatures included Rourkela at 6.4°C, Phulbani at 6.8°C, Semiliguda in Koraput at 7.1°C, Daringbadi at 8°C, Sundargarh at 8.2°C, Keonjhar at 8.8°C, Bhawanipatna at 9.1°C, and Sonepur at 9.8°C. In contrast, the state capital, Bhubaneswar, recorded a temperature of 15.1°C, while Cuttack's temperature fell to 13.5°C.
