Bhubaneswar, Sept 9: The Odisha Crime Branch has filed a comprehensive charge sheet in the Balasore SDJM court regarding the tragic self-immolation of a woman student at Fakir Mohan College.

The charge sheet, stretching across 349 pages, records statements from 120 witnesses, underscoring the seriousness with which investigators are pursuing the case.

Initially, the charge sheet has been filed against two accused, while action against the remaining two will follow soon. In total, four persons, including two students, have been arrested for their alleged role in harassment and abetment. Investigators revealed that the two students had conspired and incited the victim to take the extreme step.

The Crime Branch has clarified that the investigation is still ongoing and the case remains open for further evidence.

The incident occurred on July 12 when the young woman, reportedly denied justice in a sexual harassment case filed against the HoD of Integrated BEd, set herself ablaze by pouring petrol. She sustained 95 percent burn injuries and tragically succumbed on July 14 at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, sparking statewide outrage and demands for justice.
