Odisha murder case mirrors Delhi's Shraddha Walkar incident

Bhubaneswar, Dec 11: A young man has been arrested in Rourkela, Odisha, for the alleged murder of his ex-girlfriend, whom he reportedly dismembered and discarded in various locations.
On Wednesday, police, assisted by the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), recovered her headless torso from the Brahmani River in Balughata, along with her legs and hands from Gadiatola, and her head from a nearby waterbody.
The disturbing case echoes the infamous murder of Shraddha Walkar in Delhi. The accused, identified as Kunu Kisan, confessed to the crime during interrogation by the Sundargarh Police.
Kisan, a resident of Lephripada, had recently been released on bail after serving time for rape charges since 2023. He allegedly abducted the victim, who was staying at a relative’s house in Jharsuguda, on December 7.
Following her disappearance, her family filed a complaint with the Jharsuguda Police, which led to Kisan's detention for questioning two days ago. After persistent interrogation, he admitted to the murder and dismemberment of the victim's body into six parts.
Authorities suspect that others may have been involved in this horrific crime, and investigations are ongoing to determine how Kisan transported the body from Jharsuguda to Rourkela. The victim, a resident of the Dharuadehi area, began a relationship with Kisan while living at her maternal uncle's house in Lephripada in 2018.
After she became pregnant, Kisan persuaded her to terminate the pregnancy, but complications led to her hospitalization. Following her recovery, her mother reported Kisan to the police, accusing him of raping her daughter. Given that the victim was a minor in 2023, Kisan faced charges under the POCSO Act and was subsequently imprisoned.
