Health dept launches vigorous response to Diphtheria outbreak in Kashipur

Bhubaneswar, June 18: Salini Pandit, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department today issued directives to the Collector of Rayagada to urgently address the outbreak of Diphtheria in Manushpadar village of Kashipur Block. In a letter, Smt. Pandit emphasized the need for immediate measures to prevent the further spread of the disease among the vulnerable population.
Highlighting recent efforts, it was noted that the Chief District Medical Officer and Public Health Officer of Rayagada, along with a state team, visited the village from June 12 to June 14, 2024. The visit included collaborative planning with district, block, and medical teams from the SLNMCH to strengthen surveillance activities. Plans were laid out for house-to-house visits to assess vaccination coverage, organize mop-up vaccination drives, and conduct Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities on personal hygiene and preventive measures.
Reports on daily surveillance and vaccination coverage are slated for submission to the State Surveillance unit and Directorate of Family Welfare, ensuring comprehensive oversight and reporting on the containment efforts.
The measures underscore a proactive approach by the Health Department to swiftly address the Diphtheria outbreak, safeguarding the health and well-being of the community in Manushpadar village and surrounding areas.
