Railways sanctions Rs 288.61 crore for Sambalpur railway flyover project
Bhubaneswar, July 18: The Ministry of Railways has approved a budget of ₹288.61 crore for the construction of a railway flyover connecting Sambalpur Station to Sambalpur City Station, spanning a distance of 8.10 kilometers. This major infrastructure project aims to improve train operations and reduce congestion at these crucial junctions.
The flyover will enable simultaneous train movements from all directions at Sambalpur, easing train traffic and ensuring smooth operations towards Titilagarh, Angul, and Jharsuguda. By eliminating cross-traffic delays and operational inefficiencies, the project will increase the average speed and efficiency of trains in the region.
As part of the Indian Railways' Energy Corridor initiative, the construction underscores a commitment to sustainable and efficient infrastructure development. The new flyover will provide dedicated infrastructure for trains from and to Titilagarh, Jharsuguda, and Angul, bypassing the need for crossing other lines.
This development will prevent train detentions at Sambalpur/Sambalpur City Stations and nearby stations, significantly reducing waiting times for trains approaching this busy junction. The project will facilitate the smooth movement of passenger trains in the Titilagarh, Jharsuguda, and Angul directions.
Currently, cross-traffic from Jharsuguda, Titilagarh, and Angul directions causes delays and operational inefficiencies at Sambalpur Junction and Sambalpur City Stations. The construction of this flyover will resolve these issues by allowing simultaneous train movements without surface crossings, thus preventing detentions and enhancing overall train operational capabilities in the region.
