Former Bhubaneswar Central MLA Bijaya Kumar Mohanty passes away
Bhubaneswar, Dec 22: Former Bhubaneswar Central MLA, Bijaya Kumar Mohanty, widely known as Badal, passed away on Sunday afternoon at the age of 60.
As per reports, Mohanty suffered a heart attack at his farmhouse earlier in the day. He was immediately taken to Capital Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Following the postmortem, his mortal remains will be brought to the Odisha Legislative Assembly and Sakha Bhawan, the headquarters of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), for a condolence meeting, party sources stated.
Mohanty represented the Bhubaneswar Central constituency in the Odisha Legislative Assembly during 2009 and 2014 as a BJD candidate. However, he was replaced by Ananta Narayan Jena in the subsequent elections. In recent years, he had been dealing with health issues.
Leaders from various political parties have expressed their grief over his demise. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, in his condolence message, described Mohanty as a dedicated organizer and a beloved leader who began his political journey during his college years. The Chief Minister also commended Mohanty for his philanthropic contributions to society.
