Odisha Chief Minister launches enhanced pension scheme for elderly and disabled

Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday officially launched an enhanced social security pension scheme aimed at supporting elderly and disabled individuals. This initiative aligns with a commitment made by the BJP in its election manifesto.

The announcement took place at a function held at DD College Ground in Keonjhar, where the Chief Minister distributed the increased allowances to beneficiaries.

Under this new scheme, individuals aged 80 and above, as well as those with a disability level of 80% or more, will receive a monthly pension of Rs 3,500, a significant rise from the previous amount of Rs 1,200. This enhancement is designed to improve the welfare of some of the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

Majhi emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that the increased pension aims to provide dignity and financial security to the elderly and disabled populations. He noted that the program, launched in Keonjhar, will soon be expanded to every district in the state, benefiting approximately 4 lakh individuals.

This move underscores the Odisha government's commitment to uplifting marginalized communities and ensuring equitable support for those in need, while also enhancing the quality of life for all, especially those requiring additional assistance due to age or disability. Additionally, the government announced a substantial pension increase for freedom fighters, acknowledging their significant contributions during India's independence struggle.
