Odisha airports conduct security checks after bomb threat hoaxes

Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: A high alert was declared at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar and Veer Surendra Sai Airport (VSSA) in Jharsuguda on Thursday due to bomb threat calls that raised concerns for passenger safety.
In response, airport authorities implemented heightened security protocols at both airports. At BPIA, specialized dog squads and bomb disposal units were deployed to ensure thorough inspections and to mitigate any potential threats.
BPIA Director Prasanna Pradhan addressed the media, explaining that a vague bomb threat had been reported but confirmed as a hoax after extensive security evaluations were conducted. He reassured the public that all necessary safety measures were being adhered to during the incident.
Meanwhile, at VSSA, Director Sandip Kumar Tiwari reported that a bomb threat concerning an Indigo flight from Bengaluru to Jharsuguda was disseminated via social media. This prompted a comprehensive security check of the aircraft, which was cleared for its return flight to Bengaluru after being thoroughly inspected. Both airport authorities emphasized their commitment to passenger safety and the swift action taken in response to the threats.
